4-H Leadership Trip to Washington DC
Monday, April 2, 2007
Members of the 4-H Leadership program from Adair and Green County attended a Leadership Trip to Washington DC on March 14-17, 2007. Members who attended the trip were: Cassie Rogers, Julie Wilson, Presley Gaskin, Dariann Smith, Emily Burton, Leslie Cowan, Sean Keltner, Jason Keltner, Thomas Keltner, Megan Coffey, Shawnate Burton, Katlyn Wallace, Ashley Sullivan, Elijah Coffey, and Sarah Thompson. Adults who attended the trip were: Sandy Rogers, Debbie Cowan, Annetta Burton, Janet Coffey, Phyllis Burton, Archie Burton, Jeff Biggs, Patrick Wilson, Corey Smith, Jonathan Kelley, Tony Rose, and Tyrone Gentry.

For many of the trip’s participants this was the first time they had ever been to Washington DC. During the trip, the group visited many of the monuments, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of Natural History, and took a tour of the U.S. Capital. The group had the chance to meet Senator Mitch McConnell and have a picture made with him. Senator McConnell’s office helped organize part of the trip and we really appreciate all the work and help his office gave our group.
Our State 4-H program can be very proud of this outstanding group of young people and how they represented our community. On two separate occasions, we had total strangers comment about how well behaved and respectful our group of young people were. There are many memorable moments from the trip and the group had a great time. We are very proud to have the opportunity to work with such a fine group of young men and women. We would like to thank all the adults who attended this trip. Without their help a trip like this would not be possible.
