Have you caught the B-U-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z? 4-H is a terrific organization for kids and we want everyone to know.
We NEED people of ALL ages to create a B-U-Z-Z about 4-H among friends and neighbors. It’s as simple as talking about 4-H as you go about your daily activities OR as involved as planning an “event” to buzz a bunch of people. It’s not hard, it’s just making the effort to talk about 4-H, something you love doing anyway. Text or IM friends. Talk about 4-H while you’re parked in Parent’s Row at soccer practice. Wear an “Ask me about my 4-H experience” tee shirt at school or while doing errands on Saturday. The opportunities are endless.
Whether you are 9 or 90, we need your help to create a buzz in your community. Just imagine a soft buzz building toward a roaring B-U-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z as more and more people talk about 4-H. Interested?

Christian County 4-H held it’s first annual 4-H Day on September 30. The day was designed to kick off National 4-H Week and promote 4-H to the Hopkinsville, Christian County and Fort Campbell communities and attracted over 100 4-H’ers, volunteers, as well as 150 persons interested in learning about 4-H.

The event was held at the Christian County Cooperative Extension Service and included a pancake breakfast, 15 club and project displays. The Rocketry, Robotics and Horticulture clubs from Fort Campbell, as well as Shooting Sports, Dog, Horse, Lou’s Afterschool Club and Livestock Club all provided hands on activities and demonstrations. 4-H Alumni attended and brought “then” pictures and had a “now” picture taken that would become part of a 4-Her “Then and Now” display. The week prior a team of eight 4-H Ambassadors visited 5 elementary schools to promote 4-H Day and the Christian County 4-H Program. The Ambassador’s used a pep rally theme to promote the Core Curriculum areas of 4-H and show that 4-H has something for everyone!!

Kentucky volunteers and staff numbering 108 strong joined more than 675 4-H volunteers and staff from the 13 southeastern states, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands at the 40th annual Southern Region 4-H Volunteer Forum, held at Rock Eagle 4-H Center near Eatonton, GA, last week.

At the forum, volunteers attended workshops, fun shops, listened to motivational speakers, networked and developed and “tuned” program skills to the beat of “4-H Sounds Good to Me!” These experiential learning activities required participants to discuss, use and apply their knowledge of youth development. Kentucky volunteers will be sharing their newly acquired knowledge, skills and revived excitement with other volunteers to better serve youth and families in their communities.
“This is a wonderful learning opportunity for volunteers and a way to further develop leadership as participants go back to their counties and share learning experiences and programming ideas with other volunteers to expand the efforts and opportunities for youth” said Ken Culp, III, a University of Kentucky 4-H Youth Development Senior Specialist for Volunteerism.
Plans are well underway for the 2007 event, which will be hosted by Kentucky.
